The Coffee Lectures were founded in 2018 by Anna Bot to create an environment where anyone would have the possibility to discuss gender equality and equity in a pragmatic and non-polarised way. It was an immediate success: Numbers regularly succeded 80 attendees and the Department of Mathematics decided to support it, too.
The format is as follows: Over lunch, phimale provides some food, coffee, tea and cakes, baked by students who support the event. Afterwards, a professor or an expert is invited to give an input on gender equality and equity; in the past, for example the topics of confidence, the leaky pipeline and the gender gap in mathematics were discussed. After the input, the discussion is opened to all attendees.
