The Coffee Lectures were founded in 2018 by Anna Bot to create an environment where anyone would have the possibility to discuss gender equality and equity in a pragmatic and non-polarised way. It was an immediate success: Numbers regularly succeded 80 attendees and the Department of Mathematics decided to support it, too.
The format is as follows: Over lunch, phi:male provides some food, coffee, tea and cakes. Afterwards, a professor or an expert is invited to give an input on gender equality and equity; in the past, for example the topics of confidence, the leaky pipeline, the gender gap in mathematics and unconscious bias were discussed. After the input, the discussion is opened to all attendees.
Here, you can find the dates and places of our next coffee lecture, or browse through some of our old coffee lectures.

Next Coffee Lecture: “Living by the Laws of Energy” with Dr. Vira Bonder | 31.03.26 14:45 | HCI D8

We’re excited to invite you to our next Phi:male Coffee Lecture with Dr. Vira Bonder – education specialist and particle physicist.
In her talk “Living by the Laws of Energy – Personal Story, for the Inspiring Woman in Each of You”,
she’ll share insights from her career in physics and reflect on how scientific thinking and personal experiences shape a path in academia.
Whether you’re studying physics, thinking about your next steps, or just curious to hear a different perspective from within the field—this one’s for you.
As always: free pizza & snacks 🍕✨, open discussion, and time to connect afterwards.
We’d love to see you there!
